Meet my neighbors

Good afternoon.  It's a balmy day here in Palm Beach. Since Leslie and Jake are joining us in 8 days, we had an opportunity to go to a dive shop and get everybody some snorkeling equipment.  We found 3 pairs of fins, we need one more.  We'll order that from Amazon (for half the price that we paid at the dive shop, ouch), another live and learn moment.  The boat was terribly salty after our last run but it has been only a week or so since we washed it. I just used the hose and squirted everything down, it was still clean underneath all that salt.  Now we have clean windows again!  David is down in the engine room installing those vital parts we picked up yesterday and I am going to start dinner, Snappy Grillers and broccoli salad. I walked the dock to snap a few pics of our big neighbors.  They are all beautiful boats! There seems to be about 15 friends/family reading this every night.  I'd love to know who you are.  Is there anything you'd like to see or hear about?  I take tree pics for Kitty, I give the travel log details for Chris, Ellie pics for Anne, sunrise and sunset for Danny,

    So happy you're back on your blog, I really missed it over the holidays. For me, the architecture of the small towns you post are my favorite. Towns I'm probably never going to visit, so you are my eyes to things I will never see in person. All your pictures are great, and when I read your blog each evening, it's like I'm on the boat with you and David, such an adventure. I know Lowell is watching over you, your adventure would have been exactly what he would have wanted to do. Love you both. So glad Leslie and Jake are coming for a visit.

Tour of the Battleship Wisconsin

We toured the Battleship Wisconsin today.  We spent 5hours crawling around the ship and we both were in awe.  There’s too much to write about, so today you can just look at the pictures. Here goes: A Navy ship that had one gun manned by a crew of Marines.  This was the Marine emblem drawn by one of the Marine gunners when he was 19.  When he turned 85, the Navy brought him out so that he could climb up on scaffolding in 100 degrees heat.  It took him 4 days to complete the emblem being restored.  He was in heaven that the Navy had honored him with the task. This is gunpowder that is compressed into pellets, there are 256 pellets in one bag, it takes 6 bags to fire one gun one time. Highest point on the ship.  It’s basically the pilot house. The firing of Tomahawk missiles.  They fly 550 mph just above the ground, flying under the radar.  Read the plaque, it’s interesting. These are 5”  barrel guns, the smallest guns on the ship. Patch Day

  The Coast Guard issued a small craft wind advisory this morning.  We went anyway.  The winds were at 35knots, seas at 4' with a 2 second interval (that means every 2 seconds a 4' wave hits you).  A rule of thumb is 4' x 2 = 8, so a 4' wave should not be closer together than every 8seconds or you're going to get the crap knocked our of you.  We did get the crap knocked out of us.  I had to use another patch but, once again, it worked like a champ and Ellie had an L-Theanine .   A bouncing buoy, guessing it weighs 2000#        Bouncing boats    Writing the blog, David took a pic of how close we are to the bow of the mega yacht that's 3' off our swim step  That dark thing is their anchor   Bouillabaisse !!! and it was really good, loved the mussels   David's Captain's Platter, grouper, shrimp, scallops with garlic mashers and cheesy grits   Tropical Rum Punch, sweet but good!   Sign telling about the manatees   The marina's pet parrot   And if it&

Ruff Ruff day on the ocean

Shrimpers in the marina. Historical home, built  1740.  Built  1780. Built same time. Mom!! Me no like this ride. Painkiller. Container ship. New hat. Built 1740 by a Babtist preacher that spread his religion along the East  Coast. Magnolia tree for Kitty. The last magnolia bloom.  Beautiful.. . Can you say traffic!! Moon set. Beautiful. Moon rise last night.  Ellie was so noe-vuss today.  We anticipated smooth seas but guess what.  It was the roughest day yet.  Poor Ellie stood between my legs, leaned on my shoulder and paced.  Today the big rumbler (the engine is the big rumbler, the generator is the little rumbler) was not her friend.  She normally is very at ease with the motion of the boat but it threw us around today.  We were up at 5am, left the dock at 6:20am and started clawing our way to Georgetown.  The trip started with rough water and it got worse the further we went, outgoing tides/current were a good 3knots, wind was 18-20 kn
