Cape May

The town was so worth spending a few fun days wandering around.  There was a walking street with a plethora of shops, restaurants and art studios.  There were babies in strollers, grandma’s with walkers and every body in between.  People were eating and drinking in the restaurant patios and ice cream cones were  abundant. Some ladies were already sunburned, some of the children were wearing strawberry ice cream on their chins and clothes. The walking mall was just good old family fun.  We walked over to the Acme Grocery store (no kidding, it really was named Acme) to pick up a few things, and then called the marina to have them send the courtesy car to pick us up.  That is such a great perk that some of these marinas offer.  Another bonus perk is the laundry room, 3 washers, 3 drivers and they all worked.  The best part…I used my visa on a pin pad, no quarters required.  Five loads were done in a couple of hours, that would have been a week’s worth of loads on the boat.  So, there is

We were up at 5am to make sure we hit the correct tides for our trip to Cape May, NJ. We left the dock at 6:15 only to be hailed by the C &D Canal operator telling us the canal was closed due to fog.  She would let us know when it was safe to try again.  Since it was so early, the water so calm and no wind….David handed me the yacht controller and said it was a good day for me to dock the boat.  YEEHAW!  He stood with me and guided me in my first docking lesson.  I must say, it was quite successful, thanks to David’s calm instructions.  We waited for 2 hours, we were told it was safe to go down the canal.  I took the boat off the dock too.  I am anxious to get that skill under my belt, you never know when it might be necessary to run the boat that way.  There were so many boats today on the water, boats of every kind and size.  There are probably too many boat pics again.  David got us into a very tight slip here at South Jersey Marina in Cape May, NJ.  We ended up at Party City, ha, but let me go back.  Up at 5:15 am, on the road at 7:15.  We were in a tight spot but as usual Capt Dave got us out nice and slow with no excitement.  The seas were calm and the temperature was almost nice.  Our course was much like a 5:00 quittin’ time, there were boats everywhere and of every size.  It was an extremely nice ride today.  We even went up top to enjoy the new cooler weather.  We pulled into Chesapeake Inn and Marina and Tiki Bar.  It’s been going strong since we got here early afternoon.  The band has been playing constantly, the drinking heavy and the tattoos, short shorts and young women dressed for the heat (lots of skin and no bras, ha) have provided tons of free entertainment.  We walked through the bar to see town, very quaint with old houses from the early 1800’s. But the best or maybe the loudest show was all the racing speed boats. OMG you need hearing protection. Those boats hurt my ears, even with my fingers in them, it was sti
