Sunrise and Dolphins
This morning came early, I wasn't quite ready to get up. However, it was definitely worth getting up for a beautiful sunset. Our neighbor was already casting off his lines, it was 7am and the sun was just peeking over the horizon. I took quite a few pics, the scenery kept changing, each almost prettier than the last. Leaving this morning was just full of wonderful examples of Mother Nature. The water was like glass which we just don't see that often. As we got down our route, we went past R.E. Mayo which is a place that the commercial fishing boats come in to off load their catches. We were there last year but it was not full of boats. Last year we were able to go into their little retail store and buy some crab and flounder. The notorious side of this stop was their wildlife.....we may have picked up our rat here, grrrr! Needless to say, we didn't stop for fish this time. We were in the Neuse River, here in North Carolina and began to see all kinds of very nice homes with private docks and lots of boats. Now we are in the Newport River and I just saw the highlight of my day (even more than the sunrise!). I saw 2 HUGE dolphins. David first heard the tell tell noise of them slapping the water, I grabbed my camera to take photos or videos. I saw them jump 3 times, there were 2 of them and they might be the biggest ones I've seen so far. I was so excited to be back in the land of dolphins, I fumbled all the buttons on my phone and ended up with no footage, just my memories of how big and beautiful they are. I look forward to seeing more of them! It's supposed to blow tomorrow, gusting to 40mph so we will hang a day here in Beaufort, NC and wait for the weather to pass over. Today we travelled from Dowery Creek, NC to Beaufort, NC, 63 miles in 9 hours.
