Catching up

Here's the catch up for the last two weeks. Not much happens every day but after 2 weeks there are a few fun things to talk about and show pictures of.  First of all, Ellie and I flew to Phoenix to see the kids.  I got to babysit Harrison a couple of times and that was heavenly.  Kirk had a friend visit and we did some more lobstering, Key West is celebrating it's 10 minute secession from the United States and we went to see the "Drag Race" event.  I think all of this and more is best digested by looking at the photos, lots of photos! And probably some duplicate photos and videos.  The icons I pick the photos from are about 1/2" square.  It's really hard to see what is what.  Please bear with me and hope you enjoy the wide variety of subject matter.  PS.   Our new friends Deb and Brent taught us how to do the lobstering.  Deb also collects beautiful shells from the bottom of the ocean.  Don't worry, the occupants had long since moved out!!  This one is so huge, Deb made a lamp, cool!!!!!

  Leslie came and babysat with me one night.  Somebody woke up and was ready to party, so we had snacks.  Mac and cheese and then for dessert, he DRANK the baby peaches. Isn't his hair sticking up cute!!

  Deb and Brent fished after they left the marina, this is a tuna.  Don't worry Deb got the deck totally clean again.

Tour of the Battleship Wisconsin

We toured the Battleship Wisconsin today.  We spent 5hours crawling around the ship and we both were in awe.  There’s too much to write about, so today you can just look at the pictures. Here goes: A Navy ship that had one gun manned by a crew of Marines.  This was the Marine emblem drawn by one of the Marine gunners when he was 19.  When he turned 85, the Navy brought him out so that he could climb up on scaffolding in 100 degrees heat.  It took him 4 days to complete the emblem being restored.  He was in heaven that the Navy had honored him with the task. This is gunpowder that is compressed into pellets, there are 256 pellets in one bag, it takes 6 bags to fire one gun one time. Highest point on the ship.  It’s basically the pilot house. The firing of Tomahawk missiles.  They fly 550 mph just above the ground, flying under the radar.  Read the plaque, it’s interesting. These are 5”  barrel guns, the smallest guns on the ship. Patch Day

  The Coast Guard issued a small craft wind advisory this morning.  We went anyway.  The winds were at 35knots, seas at 4' with a 2 second interval (that means every 2 seconds a 4' wave hits you).  A rule of thumb is 4' x 2 = 8, so a 4' wave should not be closer together than every 8seconds or you're going to get the crap knocked our of you.  We did get the crap knocked out of us.  I had to use another patch but, once again, it worked like a champ and Ellie had an L-Theanine .   A bouncing buoy, guessing it weighs 2000#        Bouncing boats    Writing the blog, David took a pic of how close we are to the bow of the mega yacht that's 3' off our swim step  That dark thing is their anchor   Bouillabaisse !!! and it was really good, loved the mussels   David's Captain's Platter, grouper, shrimp, scallops with garlic mashers and cheesy grits   Tropical Rum Punch, sweet but good!   Sign telling about the manatees   The marina's pet parrot   And if it&

You haven’t been around until you run aground!

 The ICW was so exciting today.  The tides were with us today, we ran at an average of 8.2knots/1690 rpm’s and our top speed  at full throttle is only 7.9 knots, we got a free ride.  There was a lot of interesting things to see, the houses along the way were gorgeous, we got to watch a guy catching shrimp, several bridges which one of them was a swing bridge.  I find those fascinating!  I started the day by making a loaf of bread for dinner, then 3 loads of  laundry, then 3 hours to give Ellie a haircut, then vacuumed everything (10 minute job) to get all the dog hair off the floors and took a bunch of pics in between chores.  Then the excitement.....we came around a bend and saw the marina we are staying in for the night.  It was not only low tide, but a King Tide.
