On the Ocean

Thursday, March 11, 2021 We were “on the road again” this morning at 5:59 am. Sunrise was pretty. I think Danny C and I can start a competition for the best sunrise picture. I must admit it’s really nice to be up early, I normally sleep late and now I know, in fact miss a nice part of the day.  We are headed to Gulf Shores AL, it’s a 9 hour run today.  It was a little bumpy this morning but has smoothed out considerably. I watched a dolphin swimming next to us for 3-4 minutes, then realized I should probably take a video.  He swam off as soon as I was ready for his graceful jump into the salty air.  Oh well, just guessing.....we might see dolphins again, ha. Just FYI, I am still working on getting a FOLLOW button onto the page, however I did manage to get the comments button on, please let me know how it works❤️

The First Dawn

Guten Morgen, which is my “it’s gonna be a good day” greeting (it’s German for Good Morning).  We were up at 4:30am, did our pre-underway checklist and at 5:55am we were off the dock at Seabrook Marina. We were lucky that the schedule for the local train enabled us to get the train bridge lifted allowing us to pass into bigger water. We have partial cloud cover and about one foot waves, Dutch doors are open for a gentle sea breeze, making our journey today very comfortable.  I’ve added some pictures but for now Boat School begins again.

Captain Bernie saves the day!

What an exciting day we have had. Captain Bernie arrived yesterday and today we actually got to take the boat out and drive it around. David got to practice his docking skills.  It was a test of determination as the wind was blowing and the current was flowing. As we were trying to dock one more time, I heard this noise  that sounded like it was from a scene in Star Trek. It was a noise I’d never heard before on our boat, good thing because it was our bow thruster taking a dump.  At that point we had to call the marina, Seabrook Marina, two of the owners, thank you Aaron and Stephanie, came down to help us get back onto the dock, even with Captain Bernie at the helm it was an adventure but we made it with no damage to the boat, dock or people. At this point, David and I were getting so discouraged. The plan was to leave New Orleans in the morning at 6am and I could see those plans going up in smoke, much the same as the bow thruster, ha. I was afraid we’d have to ge...

Getting ready for Captain Bernie

David has to make a quick trip to Phoenix.  He’ll be back on Friday, we pick up Captain Bernie on Saturday morning.  The weather has gone from snowsuit weather to swimsuit weather, now it’s back to snowsuit.  Another storm has blown in, so lots of gray skies, rain, wind and did I mention wind? It makes Lake Ponchetrain rough which then finds it’s way into our little Seabrook Marina.  Geez, we’ve been rocking’ and rolling’ for about two days now.  It makes for wonderful sleeping at night. Naps are even better.

Joining this blog

Hi, still trying to figure this blog thing out. If you want to “join” , please send me a text message Pamkruft@gmail.com Then I have to send you an invitation, after you accept,  then you can comment, I think ( and maybe be notified when I post a new page?). Update on the new washer/dryer.  It works Grreeaattt! David is putting the wood trim back on right now.  The refrigerator......the jury is still out.  It gets cold, quits and warms up, gets cold, warms up, over and over.  Is it operator error?? Hmmmm

New refrigerator

We got up at 6am to empty the frig so the new one could be installed. We had time for coffee before Little Teak showed up (pretty sure that is not his real Vietnamese name) to get started. They also pulled out the dead washer/dryer (come to find out...there was a kink in the duct work, thus the dryer didn’t work too well.  We may not have actually needed a new one but that’s what happens sometimes in Boatland)  little Teak got the frig in and turned on around 3:30.  My poor foods that were now sitting on the back deck in a laundry basket were quite warm but the frig seemed to do just fine and started to cool down. At 9pm, it decides to quit working, we jiggled and swore at it, it then started again, yay, let’s hope it continues to work.  I think grocery shopping is in order tomorrow since Everything has been at that “let’s grow salmonella” temperature most of the day.  Little Teak didn’t get to the dryer install, maybe tomorrow, maybe Monday. Just another ...

Just some fun pictures
