The last few days have been busy ones, especially for David. He has had so many projects. The one new piece of electronics we were able to get is a Garmin, MFD, chart plotter. It’s a 12” screen and it will eventually end up on the Flybridge, yay, new technology, but for now it has a temporary mount in the pilot house. We also put some pipe thing into the fresh water tank so we hopefully, have a more accurate reading on the gauge that tells us how much water we have. He also put a new actuator on the fresh water pump so now we don’t have the pulsating shower spray for bathing. The actuator also fixed the washing machine getting confused, giving us an error message. We would have to turn off the breaker, flip it back on then start the wash cycle over, completely from the beginning! Grrrr! Laundry day will be much faster now. David fixed two light fixtures today too. We did this all by 4pm as we had to get the project messes picked up. We had our first visitors aboard today. Joey Chilberg and Sandra drove over to the marina to see us. Joey, David’s brother Bob, and David were surfing buddies from the 70’s. They would drive from San Diego to San Onofre and catch waves, day after day, week after week, turning into months, turning into years. And life went on, David hadn’t seen Joey in over 40 years so it was a great reunion for them to catch up a little bit. We FaceTimed Brother Bob so he too could say hello to Joey. Wish they could have stayed for dinner, but we were glad to see them for any amount of time. We went to dinner with some new boat friends, Rich and Theresa (who just happens to be the parents of Ellie’s friend, Trapper). Tomorrow is “getting ready to go” day. We are planning on leaving this wonderful marina, Riviera Dunes (where the staff is helpful, friendly and always available, the docks are well maintained, the wifi is good, the amenities all work well and there is live music six nights a week at the marina restaurant). We will work on getting everything stowed safely in case our good weather window doesn’t hold. We’ll fill up some tanks and empty other tanks, refresh our supply of cream for coffee and maybe even get the laundry caught up. We hope to be across the Okachobee and land in Stuart FL next week. We have 1300 miles to travel to get above Cape Hatteras for the beginning of hurricane season. Forty five days isn’t a lot of time when you travel at 7.5 knots. We want to be able to head West and be in Phoenix by May 31st. We have a new grandson that will be making his grand entrance into the world. Our son Grant, and Ashley will be the new parents, and baby will be our second grandchild. We can’t wait to spoil another grand!
Wrapping it up
Boss Bobby was absent again today. He volunteered to come install our hydraulic hoses tomorrow, Saturday, his day off. Management said no overtime, doggone again. David was out on the dock and Boss Bobby came up to him, put both his hands on David’s shoulders and said, “I may have good news for you!” Boss Bobby called management and explained without anybody else here to bug him, he could come and get the hoses “knocked out”. Music to my ears!! He said he’d be here around 9am, I said, “I’ll have lemon bars ready for you”. Don’t know if he can get all the hoses installed, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed! We both did more cleaning today. I got a razor blade and scraped off some dried varnish drips that a previous, sloppy painter had smeared all over the boat when he was applying varnish to the teak rails. I moved inside and scraped the edges and corners of the floors so get them really clean. I applied a cle...
