Okeechobee Waterway

We weren’t looking forward to today’s trip.  When we did our route planning last night we ended up with 148 waypoints (a point on the chart that you navigate to). It was supposed to have some very shallow areas, a couple of times we only cleared the bottom by 4’.  It was a little nerve racking to say the least.  We went through 2 locks, one easy, one not so much.  We had 2 bridge lifts (we had to call the bridge operator and request that they stop the traffic, raise the bridge, then lower it back down).  Another bridge was a swing bridge, instead of raising vertically, it swung horizontally, watch the video.  Today we saw a raccoon as we were leaving at sunrise and going through one of the locks, there was a ‘gator lurking in the water. It sort of felt like the Jungle ride in Disneyland.  After about a 9 hour day we ended up at Forest River Marina.  We decided to take tomorrow off, maybe wash the boat and do our route planning across Lake Okeechobee for Friday.  Lots of pics and way too many videos of dolphins playing along the wake of the boat, hope you enjoy them!

Loved the moss covered trees.

The raccoon.

Our first lock ever, yay!.

Alligator in the wild.

In the mountains, people decorate their yards with bear and deer statues, here they decorate with manatee statues.

Miscalculation of the tides and water depth, yikes!

After 40 attempts, finally got this.
