Busy waters

We were up at 5:15 and out of the slip about 6:30. I love getting up early like that, it reminds me of being a kid and being woken up at dark:30 to drive to San Diego for vacation.  I got to take the boat off the dock, it was an easy exit but nonetheless, I got to use the yacht controller and get us on our way.  That is such an amazing feeling, yahoo! The seas were perfect today, nice breeze, only one dolphin but many ships. As we approached the mouth of the Annapolis Bay,  we sighted 8 cargo ships.  They are soooo big, they were all anchored so we didn’t have to dodge them.  We also went past a neat old lighthouse.  We had to give a wide berth around a, according to the maps, a dangerous object.  It was a big ship receiving LNG  (liquid natural gas) from an underwater pipeline into this facility in the middle of the ocean and then pumped aboard this huge tanker.  The wide berth was for possible terrorism, can you imagine that kind of explosion!  I was glad to swing wide. We are tucked back into the marina and getting into our spot was a challenge.  David was using the yacht controller and he was headed straight towards a piling.  Reverse, reverse, reverse NOW.  We kissed the piling, he had it in reverse but the wind was stronger than the backing up power. No harm done but we just looked like amateurs. Boy, did we work up a sweat getting the lines on and the fenders out.  It was 90 and 70% and the sun was bearing down.  We both looked like a wet t-shirt contest only neither of us is 20 years old anymore, ha. This weather is officially awful. In our little nook in the marina, we are in with the big boys.  I feel like the runt in the litter.  Next to us is “Winning Drive” a 120’ something, owned by the billionaire (according to Google) that owns the Baltimore Ravens football team.  Another ginormous boat near us had a crew that was cleaning the exterior windows, from a sling tied to the very top of the boat.  Then there was the older than me gentleman that showed up with his tie smartly tied with the butler, also in coat and tie, pulling the dock cart full of gear to get onto his boat.  I feel like such a guppy, ha, but I guess we’re docked with the cool kids.  Today we went 46 miles to Annapolis Yacht Basin Marina, about 6.5 hours including getting fuel and a pump out.

Beautiful sunrise this morning.

Me taking the boat out of the slip.

A sailing cruise.

2 people parasailing.  You couldn’t pay me a million dollars to do that.

Using our back  deck camera.

A NOAA research ship.

The Liquid Natural Gas ship  loading at the platform.

Sunrise is just beginning.

Cute little lighthouse.

Can you say rush hour traffic!

Counting the container ships.

Good morning sunshine!

Oops, counting again.

Naval Academy in the background.

We went up to the flybridge for awhile .It was just too darn hot.  Ellie was huffing so we went back inside.

This is what 90 and 70% looks like, you can’t see the sweat balls dripping off  my  face, gross.
