Meet our dock
There are such nice people here at the marina. We've never been in one place long enough to join in the social aspect of Boatland. But here, we are having docktails and cocktails and stories and recommendations of where to go and how to get there. Starting with Brent and Deb, they have shared their lobster catches and conch shells Deb has picked up from the bottom of the ocean. We gave them CBD for their ailments. Kirk is next to them. He hosted a docktails and since it was so hot and his boat is big enough, we went inside in the a/c. His puppy Sam was having fun with so much action and he added his own enthusiasm by loudly squeaking his toy. Since most of us have dogs, we all encouraged Sam to keep squeaking! Kirk put out quite the spread and with everyone bringing a shareable, there was enough food and drink that most of us skipped dinner. Next to Kirk is X (Xavier). He's on a big sailboat, nice guy. New to the dock is Dave and yikes, his wife ?? (I now know is Nancy) and their Goldendoodle 6mo old puppy, Rosie. They are on a brand new Fleming 55 and is it a beauty. To their stern is a charter catarmeran, James, Kai and their ladies. They have been here for almost a week and the weather has been so bad they have only taken the boat out once. It's a shame to invest that much money on a vacation and not be able to "go". Next to them is Painkiller and that crazy lady that every morning takes her fishing net out and walks the docks picking up garbage out of the water. Today I had 4 full nets of misc. syrofoam, bottle caps, candy wrappers, baggies, wood sticks with nails, an entire plastic wrapper from a flat of bottled water, styro plates, food that won't compost for months, plastic straws, drink coozies, a 50# net bag that onions or potatoes would be packaged in...etc, etc. I meet so many people that acknowledge what I am doing, whether it's because they don't want the garbage in their boat strainers or scratching their hulls or those that are concerned about the ocean and the creatures in it. I just do it for all those reasons and also because, I think the Jewish call it a mitzvah, a good deed. On our starboard side is an older sailboat, that as Alex and Amy have said, needs some attention on the outside but is immaculate on the inside. Amy has offered to show me the boat as I have never been inside a sailboat. They have their happy hound puppy, Comet, that runs their top deck, he is so cute and does that happy butt tail wag thing. Alex is a wedding painter. Now what is a wedding painter?? He is hired to go to weddings, from film stars
to us regulars. While the ceremony is happening, Alex paints the background and then when the reception begins, he begins adding the guests, the band and the rest of the excitement. This wedding painting seems to be quite the in thing. Alex said he has turned down jobs in Italy, Africa and other exotic locations. He and Amy left this morning for a gig in Naples, Florida. I can't wait to hopefully see some photos. They have a FB page, Alex Harvi, his work is really interesting. What a great biz for an artist to start, I guess it pays well.
David and Kirk rode the bots over to the little fish market and came back with some FRESH fish, they were filleting it as the boys watched. David took some great pics of some local color over there too.
