Surf and turf

The internet was nonexistent last night so no blog.  Since it's March Madness and UofA, the #2 seed, is playing tonight, I'll be up a little later than usual to wait out the upload nightmare.  Yesterday, Kirk took David and Jake out fishing.  They were gone about 4 hours and unfortunately didn't even get a bite.  But they had fun, nonetheless.  Jake got to drive the boat which he thought was very fun!!  When they got back to the marina, the three of them gave the boat a quick wash. Leslie and I went into town and did some shopping.  Leslie found a wind chime that she "needed". It was made of shells and produced great music.  Back at the dock, we met one of our neighbors, they were cleaning lobsters they had caught.  I asked if I could take a pic, ran to get my phone, and went back over.  The were showing us how you break off one of their antenna, twist the body off the tail and then use the antenna to clean out the poo chute.  They actually gave us THREE lobster tails. We were flabbergasted with their generosity. We saved the tails for dinner tonight.  Today was pool day, both Jake and Leslie had a little too much sun and are rather pink tonight.  Kirk came for dinner tonight and brought his 2 lobster tails that he had been given and we had surf and turf.  It's been a long time since I've had lobster and it was as good as I remembered.  The kids leave tomorrow and I am not a happy camper.  We've had a lot of fun with them, Leslie has had a chance to relax a little.  She needed that, between school and moving, she was pretty much at the end of her rope.  We will go for Cuban food tomorrow mid afternoon before they head for the airport.  Oh, and I almost forgot, Jake saw a shark cruising the marina and then when we were coming home for the pool today, he saw him again.  We all got to see him but nobody got a good pic😩

Tour of the Battleship Wisconsin

We toured the Battleship Wisconsin today.  We spent 5hours crawling around the ship and we both were in awe.  There’s too much to write about, so today you can just look at the pictures. Here goes: A Navy ship that had one gun manned by a crew of Marines.  This was the Marine emblem drawn by one of the Marine gunners when he was 19.  When he turned 85, the Navy brought him out so that he could climb up on scaffolding in 100 degrees heat.  It took him 4 days to complete the emblem being restored.  He was in heaven that the Navy had honored him with the task. This is gunpowder that is compressed into pellets, there are 256 pellets in one bag, it takes 6 bags to fire one gun one time. Highest point on the ship.  It’s basically the pilot house. The firing of Tomahawk missiles.  They fly 550 mph just above the ground, flying under the radar.  Read the plaque, it’s interesting. These are 5”  barrel guns, the smallest guns on the ship. Patch Day

  The Coast Guard issued a small craft wind advisory this morning.  We went anyway.  The winds were at 35knots, seas at 4' with a 2 second interval (that means every 2 seconds a 4' wave hits you).  A rule of thumb is 4' x 2 = 8, so a 4' wave should not be closer together than every 8seconds or you're going to get the crap knocked our of you.  We did get the crap knocked out of us.  I had to use another patch but, once again, it worked like a champ and Ellie had an L-Theanine .   A bouncing buoy, guessing it weighs 2000#        Bouncing boats    Writing the blog, David took a pic of how close we are to the bow of the mega yacht that's 3' off our swim step  That dark thing is their anchor   Bouillabaisse !!! and it was really good, loved the mussels   David's Captain's Platter, grouper, shrimp, scallops with garlic mashers and cheesy grits   Tropical Rum Punch, sweet but good!   Sign telling about the manatees   The marina's pet parrot   And if it&

You haven’t been around until you run aground!

 The ICW was so exciting today.  The tides were with us today, we ran at an average of 8.2knots/1690 rpm’s and our top speed  at full throttle is only 7.9 knots, we got a free ride.  There was a lot of interesting things to see, the houses along the way were gorgeous, we got to watch a guy catching shrimp, several bridges which one of them was a swing bridge.  I find those fascinating!  I started the day by making a loaf of bread for dinner, then 3 loads of  laundry, then 3 hours to give Ellie a haircut, then vacuumed everything (10 minute job) to get all the dog hair off the floors and took a bunch of pics in between chores.  Then the excitement.....we came around a bend and saw the marina we are staying in for the night.  It was not only low tide, but a King Tide.
