Ellie’s friends

 Ellie has made many new friends.  There’s Trapper the lab,  he is a trained bird dog and he has very nice manners and a good Butt sniffer.  Then there are Oreo and Tati, they are cute and fuzzy.  Tati has a little attitude so her Dad has to carry her around.  Oh, and Malibu, she is a black Great Dane and very sweet off leash, we don’t have a picture of her yet, as she tried to eat Ellie last time we passed on the dock, and we didn’t want to ask her to pose for us after that.  Their is a new poodle on the dock, quite the diva but we don’t know her name yet.  Oreo’s parents were kind enough to lend us their car so we went to a hole in the wall place, La Familia, it was definitely authentic Mexican food. I even used a little of my rusty high school Spanish.....si, muy bueno, caliente, gracias.   After lunch we found a new Costco and bought some beef and veggies.  Have you tried their hamburger? It’s really moist when you make hamburgers for dinner, probably because the fat content is so high, ha. Our next stop was a place called Detweiler’s.  It is run by the Amish and it was fun to wander the aisles to see new and unusual items.  Their hotdogs, made in house, are local celebrities.  We bought a pack of four dogs for dinner tomorrow. Pics tomorrow.  After we got home, back to the boat, we made a shrimp cocktail and called it dinner.  David decided to calibrate the fresh water tank so we sat out on the bow and watched the sun set as we fiddled with the measurements.  Ellie wandered out to join us, casually walked over to her potty grass, peed 👏👏👏 and we had to go in and get a goodie.  THEN, big news! Gary, the insurance guy, called to tell us we have been cleared to run the boat without a captain being aboard. Yay, oh yay!  All in all, a pretty mundane day. It was 80 degrees, a little humid but anyway....another good day in Boatland!

Patch Day

Ruff Ruff day on the ocean

Shrimpers in the marina. Historical home, built  1740.  Built  1780. Built same time. Mom!! Me no like this ride. Painkiller. Container ship. New hat. Built 1740 by a Babtist preacher that spread his religion along the East  Coast. Magnolia tree for Kitty. The last magnolia bloom.  Beautiful.. . Can you say traffic!! Moon set. Beautiful. Babtist preachers home. Sunrise this morning. Moon rise last night.  Ellie was so noe-vuss today.  We anticipated smooth seas but guess what.  It was the roughest day yet.  Poor Ellie stood between my legs, leaned on my shoulder and paced.  Today the big rumbler (the engine is the big rumbler, the generator is the little rumbler) was not her friend.  She normally is very at ease with the motion of the boat but it threw us around today.  We were up at 5am, left the dock at 6:20am and started clawing our way to Georgetown.  The trip started with rough water and it got worse the further we went, outgoing tides/current were a good 3knots, wind was 18-20 kn

Tour of the Battleship Wisconsin

We toured the Battleship Wisconsin today.  We spent 5hours crawling around the ship and we both were in awe.  There’s too much to write about, so today you can just look at the pictures. Here goes: A Navy ship that had one gun manned by a crew of Marines.  This was the Marine emblem drawn by one of the Marine gunners when he was 19.  When he turned 85, the Navy brought him out so that he could climb up on scaffolding in 100 degrees heat.  It took him 4 days to complete the emblem being restored.  He was in heaven that the Navy had honored him with the task. This is gunpowder that is compressed into pellets, there are 256 pellets in one bag, it takes 6 bags to fire one gun one time. Highest point on the ship.  It’s basically the pilot house. The firing of Tomahawk missiles.  They fly 550 mph just above the ground, flying under the radar.  Read the plaque, it’s interesting. These are 5”  barrel guns, the smallest guns on the ship.
