Good to be home!
Our Thanksgiving trip back to Phoenix ended up being a little longer than we anticipated. It’s January 23rd and we’re finally back on the boat. The drive back to Deltaville was long but, gratefully, uneventful except a few idiot bad drivers here and there. We went to El Paso TX the first night. We pushed on to Dallas for the second night. Boy, Texas is a big place! Then next was Tuscaloosa, Alabammy. Our last night was in Florence, SC. We had a short drive to Deltaville VA today. The sun was out, no wind and most of the ice and snow had melted off the dock and boat. Ellie was so excited when she saw the boat, great leaping and jumping. David got about half of the truck unloaded while I tried to put away all the “stuff” as he brought it aboard. We didn’t want to drive back into town to go grocery shopping so we ate out of the freezer. I thawed some burger that was in there, oh it was sooo gross. I cooked it and then we promptly put it in the garbage can. We have the necessities, distilled water, cream for coffee in the morning and TP. The rest can wait until we can go shopping tomorrow. The boat looked wonderful when we arrived this afternoon, the new shade was installed on the back deck. The new Garmin equipment in the pilot house is so big and brightly lit! The bright blue bottom paint looked great. It took a few minutes to figure out why the stove (propane) wouldn’t light. There were 3-4 steps to get it going so I could cook that gourmet dinner. The water on the dock has been shut off because of the ice and snow and the boat had been winterized (which means not a drop of water was anywhere aboard, a good thing!). We had to borrow several water hoses from our neighbors to get enough length to reach all the way from the marina office out to the last slip on the dock, where we are. We finally got it all hooked together and filled our water tanks, as did our neighbors since nobody knows when the marina will turn the water back on. We scraped the ice and snow off the decks outside, starting stowing our stuff where it belongs. We’re hoping to head south towards Norfolk on Friday. There are some bridges that are closed for maintenance so we will watch those schedules carefully and hope we can get through so as to be on our way south. Our ultimate destination is Key West. We have 40 days to get there and 28 days of running, pray for good weather windows. Glad to be back on the boat, and miss my kids already. Thanks for stopping by!
